We welcome researchers
Situated in the amazing city of Belém in the easter region of the Brazil Amazonian region, the IAN herbarium, rich in type specimens and historical material as well as more recent collections, welcomes and offers excellent facilities for visiting researchers. Close by (ca 1km) is the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (herbarium MG). Visitor lists for 2014, 2013 and 2012.
Our data and this website
Herbário IAN was the first herbarium in Brazil to adopt BRAHMS. Most of our specimens are now databased and imaged. However, we are now verifying these data, upgrading some images and publishing online in stages. More information on this database can be found in Publication 392, a document series Embrapa. Almost all our type specimens are already online. Read more...
Loans and exchanges
We participate in the exchange of plant material, sending specimens on loan, exchange, or donation. This process is important as it contributes to the development of research in other institutions and we receive updated identifications of specimens.
