The herbarium of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental (IAN) was created in 1945 by the botanists João Murça Pires e William Archer. The collection is an important resource for the Amazônia, with over 200,000 specimens, a superb xylarium with at least 8000 wood samples and a large collection of fruits, dried and in spirit.
