Type specimens

Nomenclatural types are herbarium specimens that are the basis for the first description of a taxon and thus document and support the scientific recognition of the taxon.

Considering the importance of these specimens, they are arranged here in the IAN Herbarium in a separate room from the general collection, stored in red covers, held under type category in accordance with the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature and accompanied by a copy of their protologue.

The status of our type specimens has been confirmed. This and obtaining copies of all protologues has been carried out with the participation of graduate students and technical support from the Herbarium (R) and from the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with help from Vera Lúcia Martins Campos.
